Aviation and cabin-crew training, which the Gulf airlines recruit for constantly

Back to the idea

Written for this site as a starting point, not from the book. Rules and fees change: ask the bodies named below before you spend money.

The mechanism, from the book

177,000 qualify every year and 45,000 get a place. The other 130,000 are a market that nobody has built for, and the polytechnic is not a second choice when it leads to a job.

The first step

Read the published recruitment requirements of the Gulf airlines and ask five people who applied from the island where they fell short. Then run a free mock assessment day for 10 candidates and offer a paid preparation course to those who want it. Paid bookings, and later hires, are the proof that preparation is what was missing.

Who pays first
A young person applying to a Gulf airline who has been rejected once and will pay to prepare properly for the next assessment.
What leaves today
Candidates apply without preparation and are turned down, so jobs the Gulf airlines recruit for constantly go to people from other countries.

Ask first

  • Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment. Ask what advice they give people applying for jobs with airlines abroad.
  • Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission. Ask whether a preparation course needs registration to charge fees.

Check before you spend

That you never promise a job you cannot give, that any fee-charging course is registered if it must be, and the airlines' published requirements.

Find out these three numbers

  1. Where did past applicants fall short in the assessment?
  2. What would a candidate pay for a preparation course?
  3. How many people apply from the island each year?

The test

Does it keep value that now leaves the island, or build the proof that lets somebody else do so?
