Starter Kit. Idea 197 of 500. Cluster 9

Ayurveda and meditation combined into a single wellness week, which is what many visitors from abroad are looking for

Back to the idea

Written for this site as a starting point, not from the book. Rules and fees change: ask the bodies named below before you spend money.

The mechanism, from the book

What cannot be copied. Every competitor can build a beach hotel. No competitor can offer a Buddhist tradition more than 2,000 years old, still practised at the places where it first took root on the island.

The first step

Find an Ayurveda centre with a qualified physician and a temple nearby whose chief incumbent already welcomes lay meditators, and ask each, separately, whether they would share a guest for a week, each doing only their own part. You handle the timetable, transport and the English explanation. Write the week on one page with its price and send it to 10 people abroad who have bought a wellness retreat before. The proof is a deposit.

Who pays first
A professional abroad who already spends on wellness retreats every year and wants one week that joins body treatment and meditation without a sales pitch.
What leaves today
The wellness week the world buys is sold under other countries' names, while the island that holds both Ayurveda and the meditation tradition sells them separately and briefly.

Ask first

  • Department of Ayurveda. Ask which Ayurveda centres are registered and have a qualified physician on site.
  • Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. Ask whether a combined wellness week must be registered as a tourism service.

Check before you spend

Whether the Ayurveda centre and its physician are registered, what the temple agrees to for the meditation side, and what insurance covers guests during treatment.

Find out these three numbers

  1. What does a wellness week cost a visitor abroad, everything included?
  2. How many guests at once can the centre and the temple take?
  3. What does each part cost you per guest per day?

A comparison from the book

Sigiriya. Chapter Five

"4 days instead of half of one"

Joining two things the visitor already wants turns a short visit into a full week.

The test

Does it keep value that now leaves the island, or build the proof that lets somebody else do so?
