Physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinics at international prices, for Sri Lankans abroad and the visitor
The mechanism, from the book
Ayurveda is a system of medicine the world already recognises and seeks out. The demand is there; what Sri Lanka needs is more of its own names, known and asked for abroad.
The first step
If you are a qualified physiotherapist, post in two community groups for Sri Lankans abroad offering a fixed-price, 2 week block of daily sessions during the holiday season, priced in pounds and dollars. Say exactly what is included and where you work. Ask families already planning a trip home whether they or an older parent would book. Advance bookings for the season are the proof you need.
- Who pays first
- A Sri Lankan abroad already coming home for the holidays, who would book daily sessions at a known price rather than wait for them abroad.
- What leaves today
- Sri Lankan families abroad pay for rehabilitation where they live; the island trains physiotherapists but has few clinics priced and marketed to catch that spending.
Ask first
- Sri Lanka Medical Council. Ask what registration doctors and physiotherapists treating visitors need.
- the area Medical Officer of Health. Ask what standard a rehabilitation clinic must meet.
Check before you spend
That every therapist is registered, that equipment is safe and maintained, and what insurers abroad require before paying for treatment.
Find out these three numbers
- What do patients abroad pay for a course of rehabilitation?
- How many Sri Lankans abroad come home for treatment?
- What does equipping one treatment room cost?
The test
Does it keep value that now leaves the island, or build the proof that lets somebody else do so?
From the appendix of Why Not Sri Lanka? by Dr Maheshika Halbeisen. The idea and the mechanism are the book's; this kit was written for the site.
