Cricket-match packages: a ticket, a seat with a local who explains it, and the after-party
The mechanism, from the book
An app that tells people what is happening tonight converts a day visit into a 2-night stay.
The first step
Buy four tickets to the next match near you and offer them to visitors through a guesthouse as a package: the seat, you beside them explaining the game, and an evening out afterwards. Charge a package price. Four seats sold, and guests asking about the next match, are the proof.
- Who pays first
- Visitors who have never watched cricket, or who love it, and want a seat beside someone who can explain every ball.
- What leaves today
- Visitors see nothing of the island's favourite sport; a package sells the match, the company and the evening.
Ask first
- Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority. Ask whether selling match packages that include tickets needs registration.
Check before you spend
That tickets are bought legitimately and can be resold in a package, and that the after-party venue is properly licensed.
Find out these three numbers
- What will visitors pay for a match package with a local companion?
- How many tickets can be bought for each match?
- Which matches each season draw visitors from abroad?
The test
Does it keep value that now leaves the island, or build the proof that lets somebody else do so?
From the appendix of Why Not Sri Lanka? by Dr Maheshika Halbeisen. The idea and the mechanism are the book's; this kit was written for the site.
