Sound healing and traditional therapy sessions
The mechanism, from the book
Ayurveda is a system of medicine the world already recognises and seeks out. The demand is there; what Sri Lanka needs is more of its own names, known and asked for abroad.
The first step
Ask a traditional drummer or musician in your area whether they would perform a quiet, seated evening session for guests, with each instrument and rhythm explained in English. Book a room at a guesthouse or yoga retreat, set a price per head and invite the guests staying there. Collect their written comments and ask the owner whether they would schedule it weekly. A weekly booking is the proof.
- Who pays first
- A retreat or guesthouse owner who wants an evening session guests cannot find anywhere else, and will pay for it every week.
- What leaves today
- Traditional drumming reaches visitors as background noise at a hotel dinner, when it could be a paid, explained session with the musician's name on it.
Ask first
- Department of Ayurveda. Ask whether traditional therapies need a registered practitioner to deliver them.
Check before you spend
That no medical claims are made, that practitioners are honest about what the session is, and what insurance covers guests.
Find out these three numbers
- What will guests pay for a session?
- How many sessions a week would hotel guests book?
- Which hotels nearby would host sessions for their guests?
The test
Does it keep value that now leaves the island, or build the proof that lets somebody else do so?
From the appendix of Why Not Sri Lanka? by Dr Maheshika Halbeisen. The idea and the mechanism are the book's; this kit was written for the site.
