The mechanism, from the book
The land, the lagoons and the savings of families abroad are waiting. What comes first is the small business.
Every idea in cluster 27 uses this mechanism.
A first step
Call a meeting of 10 residents and small guesthouse owners in the town and agree 5 simple house standards: clean rooms, fair posted prices, quiet hours and a welcome for children. Publish the list of those who sign, and offer it to 3 parent groups in Colombo as a family holiday guide. Bookings that mention the guide are your proof.
- Who pays first
- A Colombo family planning a school-holiday beach trip, who trusts a standard set by residents more than a brochure and books from the list.
- What leaves today
- The beach's value is at risk of going to outside chains, with local families as staff in their own town instead of owners.
The idea and the mechanism are from the book. The first step was written for this site as a suggestion; if you know a better one, say so.
The test
Does it keep value that now leaves the island, or build the proof that lets somebody else do so?
The only test any idea on this site has to pass. The four rules that go with it are here.
